Rigid Gas Permeable Contact Lenses
Fiona Watt Optometrists proivde Orthokeratology, or Ortho-K in Wimbledon. Ortho-K is a lens fitting procedure that uses specially designed rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses to change the curvature of the cornea to temporarily improve the eye’s ability to focus on objects. This procedure is primarily used for the correction of myopia (short sightedness).
Ortho-K lenses are worn overnight, prescribed to be worn while sleeping for at least eight hours each night. They are removed upon awakening and not worn during the day. Some people can go all day without their glasses or contact lenses. Others will find that their vision correction will wear off during the day. Ortho K is completely reversible with 99% normality restored within 5 days of stopping lens wear.
How does EyeDream work?
The cornea plays a key role in creating a sharp optical focus. EyeDream lenses gently reshape the curvature of the cornea overnight, creating a slightly flatter profile.
Upon waking, the slight change (less than half the width of a human hair) in cornea curvature is enough to create clear, sharp vision for the duration of the day.

At your initial examination, the optometrist will go through the Ortho –K treatment programme in detail and answer any questions or concerns you have. An eye examination will be carried out and the curvature of your cornea will be measured using our corneal topographer. This will give us the most accurate measurements required to make your bespoke contact lenses to achieve the best treatment, fit and vision.
Several pairs of custom made lenses may be fitted initially to find the one that gives the best fit and optimal vision. You will be required to come and see the optometrists on the mornings of the first, third day after wearing the lenses overnight. Theses checks are repeated at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months and thereafter every six months. At the six months check-ups, you will also be required to have an annual eye examination and your Ortho-K lenses will be replaced.
Yes, once the effect is complete you simply remove the lenses each morning and you can see normally throughout that day.
After the first night most of the necessary correction has been achieved. Normally, within a week, your sight during the day will be ‘treated’ and you will no longer be reliant on glasses or contact lenses.

Yes. Research and experience show that the whole process is 100% reversible. So if you decide to stop wearing EyeDream the eye will return to its original shape. This makes EyeDream an excellent alternative to laser eye surgery.

Initial consultation fee and assessment fee
£350 (non refundable)
This comprehensive package includes:
- Detailed corneal health assessment
- Advanced 3D computerised corneal surface mapping
- Custom design and manufacture of bespoke lenses
- Initial fitting of your new lenses
- Insertion and removal training – 4 sessions, each lasting 30 minutes
- Any necessary modifications or remakes of lenses
- Follow-up appointments relating to the initial lens fitting
Please note: Additional insertion and removal sessions beyond the initial four will be chargeable.
Lens Supply Fee – £330
Payable once insertion and removal training has been successfully completed and lenses are issued for the first night of wear. This fee covers the cost of your lenses for the initial six-month period.
Eye Examination Requirement
A current eye examination is required before beginning Ortho-K treatment. We recommend this is carried out at our practice. A free NHS eye test may be available if you meet the eligibility criteria. If not, a private eye examination fee will apply.
Ongoing Monthly Care Plan – £55 per month
Payable by monthly Direct Debit. This supports your ongoing care, monitoring, and support.
Biannual Ortho-K Review – £45 (Every 6 Months)
Includes:
- Corneal surface mapping
- Corneal health check
- Over-refraction for optimal visual clarity
- Adjustments to lens design if necessary
- New lenses supplied every six months
All prices are subject to change and are reviewed regularly.
Cost in the first year will be £800 and thereafter £600 for each consecutive year.
