M Pod

The M Pod allows us to measure the optical density of the macular pigment. It can be used to indicate age related macular disease (ARMD), which has been linked to low macular pigment levels. Clinical trials have shown that vitamins,, Lutein and Zeaxanthin can improve the pigment optical density, the practice can offer these in supplement form.

If you would you like any additional information about our equipment, please feel free to contact the practice where one of our qualified optometrists will be able to provide you with further information.

Humphrey Visual Field Analyser

This is used for detailed field analysis, and is the gold standard in field machines. It can pick up tumours, glaucoma and any other field defects associated with the visual pathway in the brain.

FDT Machine (Frequency Doubling Technology)

The FDT is used on all adult patients for screening field defects, particularly aimed at detection of early glaucoma.

Digital Photography

Included in the eye examination, a digital image of the appearance of the retina is taken and then stored securely on a dedicated hard drive and can be instantly accessed for future reference. Comparing current images with previous digital records facilitates the early detection of any ocular changes that may indicate the need for referral to an ophthalmologist.

Daytona Optomap

Brand new to the practice and bringing the most advanced technology to our patients is the optomap ultra-wide digital retinal imaging machine. This is now included in all eye examinations to ensure a truly comprehensive examination. The camera captures more than 80% of your retina in one panoramic image, while traditional methods typically reveal only 10-15% of your retina at one time.

We have the newest model of the Topcon Triton OCT (Ocular Coherence Tomography) machine that allows us to examine the tissues under the surface of the retina. This means that we can measure anterior angles, corneal thickness and ocular angiography.

This is used when there is family history of glaucoma, macular degeneration or diabetes. It is increasingly being used to pick up very early stages of disease.

The Equipment

We are continually investing in new and more advanced equipment and diagnostic tools to ensure a high standard of eye care is maintained.
